Love Others AS Yourself

We can't love anyone else if we can't love ourselves first.

Our relationship with a power greater than ourselves will help us learn to do that.

I saw a movie about a guy in San Francisco that cared for wild parrots a few years ago. These are primarily previous pets that were released by their owners, generally due to frustration with trying to tame the birds. This is a huge problem that concern bird enthusiasts.

Birds in captivity are very high maintenance. If they aren't cared for properly as pets they can develop strange neuroses, such as pulling out their own feathers. This can sometimes be cured if they are brought into a more nurturing environment or set free to socialize with their own kind.

This was not so with a particular female bird that flew with the flock in which the generous caretaker cared for in the movie. In fact, not only did she chew off her own feathers, she chewed off the feathers of any bird that tried to befriend her.

It almost seems that the only way this bird knew how to nurture herself was expressed in the way that she tried to show love to other birds. She didn't know how to show appropriate love to herself, nor could she show appropriate love to her peers.

This bird did not grow up in a nurturing environment that gave it what it needed to be a successful parrot.

Matthew 22:36-40

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love he Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

When I read this as a young kid, I had a Sunday school teacher in church explain this that we are supposed to put others first, others second, and ourselves last.

However, the passage says that we are supposed to love others AS we love ourselves.

So we've got to learn to love ourselves first. How does one do that, and how does one know if one is succeeding in that?

Can you sit in a room by yourself for more than 10 minutes doing absolutely nothing?

Do you find that you lose yourself in relationships with other people?

If you cannot tolerate yourself for a short amount of time, that's probably a good sign that you do not love yourself.

Generally when we love someone we can't tear ourselves away from the other person.

And if you don't love yourself enough to get to know what you like or don't like, then you'll be lost before you get in a relationship.

A relationship in and of itself never cured anyone from being lonely and sad. If it did, it would follow that there would be a lot less lonely and sad people in the world.

How we learn to love ourselves is through a relationship with a power greater than ourselves.

Stay tuned for that.

Raising Peaceful Conciousness

There is something heavy on my mind today. I have an idea that I want to put out to the universe.

Do you remember the movie 'What The Bleep' when they told of some people that gathered on the White House lawn one summer and meditated? The people involved had predicted that crime would decrease by a certain percentage. The police responded that it would have to snow in order for that to happen.

The participants did the meditation and it actually was successsful in lowering crime that day.

We HAVE to do the same thing in regards to the hate in the world. If we had enough people meditating or praying for the end of war, the end of violence and the end of hate in the world, I have no doubt this would happen.

War must end and end now. War is no longer an acceptable solution to conflict.

Love is the way. Society at large doesn't know what love is, we must learn what it is, receive it and share it. Those who do know what love is must share it.

Violent protests against war is not the solution. Protests involving hate is not the solution. Hate does not eradicate hate.

No more hate of any kind, whether directed at those in leadership or those who are considered enemies. No hate directed at the guy that bumped my car yesterday.

Attaining a critical mass of people directing their thoughts towards peace will make peace happen. We all must at least direct our thoughts, daily towards this goal.

We must take initiative in our local cities to make this happen. We can do this collectively. Imagine all of us meeting at one time all directing thoughts towards peace.

This will have two effects-it will empower ourselves, and it will have a profound affect on the totality of human consciousness.

Is anyone in?

Crop Circles, Quetzlcoatl, 2012, End Times

Is it ok if I get a little knee deep in the muck? That's what this blog is about.

Consider yourself warned.

I've been attempting to connect with world and earth consciousness(thru purely legal means, the 70s are over, man)in regards to the end of the Mayan calendar and what it may or may not mean for humanity.

The Mayan calendar is a 5000 year calendar that ends on December 21, 2012.

Much speculation has resulted in trying to determine why this date was chosen, and how they knew that a winter's solstice would occur on this date.

Go here for more of a detailed analysis on the Mayan calendar.

Much more speculation has been offered as to what change may or not take place on that date. And for those who go for the crop circles, the Mayan calendar has been reproduced for us in a quite detailed fashion.

Go here for a detailed description of Quetzalcoatl.

The way that the Mayan temples have been designed, on this date a shadow of Quetzalcoatl is going to ascend the numerous steps of a particular Mayan temple. Mayan literature is unclear at this point what is going to happen, but they indicate that some radical change in the Earth or mankind is going to happen.

Some say this is going to tie in with the end times predictions of Christianity(I don't want to say 'Judeo Christian' because it sounds pretentious, and I sure wouldn't want to sound flaky).

Those who connect this date with the crop circles indicate that there is possibly going to be a polar shift, which would render pretty much all technology useless. This includes possible radical land mass shifting and all sorts of scary or hopeful things that may suggest that we are in line for some kind of metamorphosis, whether sub-concious or otherwise.

One interpretation suggests this is when Christ is going to return, but the Bible states that no man knows the hour or the time...and so the whole date thing kind of squashes that theory.

So anyway, what I'm getting back from my attempts to connect with what all this may mean is that we are in some kind of waiting period and preparation for something to happen, possibly a spiritual awakening or even preparation for a greater spiritual awakening to occur.

If not, then we, as in myself and everyone else, is going to look pretty silly.

If you have any additional info about any of this, or if you just want to issue general mockery, fire away.
